Pattern for mask with clear window panel now available

Early in April, college student Ashley Lawrence made national news when she designed a face mask with a clear panel that makes communication easier for deaf and hard of hearing people. That news coverage led to many front line workers in Ohio’s disability community wondering how they could find something similar. The Adult Advocacy Centers moved quickly to fill the need, recruiting volunteers to start sewing. One volunteer, Susan Roscigno, created a pattern and step-by-step instructions, which are now available in this public Google Doc. The AACs invite the public to share the document widely but ask that it not be used for profit. So far, we have provided masks for some Child Advocacy Centers, Developmental Centers, and are working on masks for the state psychiatric hospitals.
